Once again, Växjö has been crowned the sport city of Sweden. In 2013, Växjö won the title for the first time and has the following years been in the top six league of Swedish citties. This year, 2017, Växjö is once again the winner of this category.
The municipality of Växjö is rewarded due to its close cooperation with ”focusing on public health, child-and youth athletics, gender equality, intergration and elite sport”. The prize motivation also brings up a good event strategy, the possibilities to organized spontaneous sport events within socioeconomic weak areas, the cooperation between sport, infrastructure, academy and industrial life in the arena city, and Växjö´s role as a good municipality of sport and as a bicycle town.
We are incredibly proud but also motivated to continue our work. This is the proof that we are a municipality where everyone interested in sport can feel at home. We have room for all kinds of sport related areas, Eva Johansson says, president of the committee for culture and sport.
The Prices is handed out by the newspaper Sport & Affärer which chooses a winner based on 20 different factors.
